If you cannot achieve a nice full print then you may be tempted to try and fix the problem yourself. Take note of all the "DO NOT's" below before you try.

I have seen various fluids suggested to clean printer heads but the worst has to be ammonia. It may work when you first use it but it will destroy the rubber seals on the printers Head and therefore after a while, the print quality will deteriorate and the head will need to be replaced, so not very cost effective.

Household cleaners are also not to be used. They will either contain ammonia or bleach and/or other corrosives.

There are different kinds of Solvent so don't be tempted to try and make your own cleaning fluid. For example DO NOT USE ACETONE on your printer. It may be OK for removing nail varnish but it will destroy your printer.

Do not use compressed air. I have seen other guides promoting this idea but it is one of the most ridiculous ideas I have seen. The Head on a printer has an internal rubber seal which could easily be damaged plus the chambers from each nozzle could be blown out causing leaks. The printer Head should be treated with a bit of respect.

Do not use Cotton Buds or balls of Cotton Wool as they will leave strands of cotton on the Park Pads or printer Head and will cause print quality to deteriorate.

The idea is to keep your printer in good working order so use a printer cleaning fluid developed for the job.

I service printers (mainly Epson) on a regular basis and use my own fluid PRINT-EASE to achieve a clear full print. It contains a Solvent (non corrosive) which dissolves dried ink and a Surfactant which creates less surface tension for the fluid to flow through the printers Head to clear the nozzles and chambers leading to the head itself.

I have great success in unblocking EPSON printer Heads using PRINT-EASE.

It pays to be patient sometimes, if a printer has not been used for a while, the ink will probably be quite solid so it will take a bit of soaking for the Solvent tostart doing its job.
PRINT-EASE is also supplied with various methods of cleaning and
flushing printer heads and a guide to unblock a bulk ink system(CISS).
